Free Field Trips to Casa San Ysidro
<< Return to Support / Magic Bus
Albuquerque Public Schools elementary and middle school students in grades 4-8 can travel to and tour Casa San Ysidro, The Albuquerque Museumís historic property in Corrales.
The Magic Bus is a free program of the Albuquerque Museum Foundation. Funding is provided to cover transportation and admission to Casa San Ysidro. Thanks to the generosity of our members and friends, each sponsored field trip gives up to 60 students and teachers an opportunity to explore the multicultural heritage of New Mexico.
Each field trip spans two and a half hours: one and a half hours are dedicated to travel to and from Casa San Ysidro, and one hour is reserved for a docent-guided tour of the site, with interactive components. Tours are from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. or noon to 1:00 p.m.
Students travel back in time as they explore this historic property. The reconstructed 19th century New Mexico home contains Spanish Colonial furniture, authentic handwoven floor coverings, an authentic wooden loom made just after the American Revolutionary War, hand-forged iron tools, fine examples of early New Mexico tinwork, santos, and more. Our Magic Bus tours to Casa San Ysidro are not just fun, they also support district standards, in social studies, language arts and fine arts. Tours of this Spanish Colonial period home guide students in exploring the important people, places, and events in our local history. All tours also foster active participation and expression.
All Magic Bus field trips to Casa San Ysidro will take place between September 21 and November 30, 2011; and February 1-May 11, 2012. Casa San Ysidro is located on Old Church Road in the historic village of Corrales.
Interested teachers must complete a Magic Bus application form. Only one application per class please. Only full completed forms will be accepted. Due to the popularity of this program, eighty field trips will be randomly drawn.
